Help!! Virus on my computer!?

I think it has something to do with the google updater, im not sure... i turn on my computer and there is no desktop just my background. Before this happend it kept bringing me to random websites and i could also not see pictures on the internet just a blank picture. It also kept bringing me to norton antivirus 2009 which i just kept closing....any ideas on how to fix this? I already tried safe mode and see if that worked but it still freezes at the desktop.
