My computer fan!?

Whenever I plat counterstrike, sims, etc. my cpu fan gets louder than usual and forces me to turn it off fearing its going to damage my motherboard. Can it damage it? Also, I'm planning to buy NBA live '07, and im afraid this same thing might happen, so i purchased an additional 256MB Ram, Can this help?
