Settlement from semi accident?

I was hit by a semi not alot of damage to my semi the other semi jacknifed into my semi I suffered herniated l5 disc had microdiscectomy back surgery 3 steroid injection and a rotator cuff surgery I am permanently disabled in right shoulder I have a lawyer I am done with doctors my medical bills are about 90k and my lawyer has not even wrote the demand letter I cant get a hold of him he is really dragging his feet I know the semi companies insurance has 1 million liability im not looking to get rich but I was considering firing my lawyer calling the insurance company asking them to pay my medical and 200k for me for my pain and suffering would it be wise for me to call the insurance myself and negotiate a settlement do you think they would be fare with me with all the injures I sustained since I would actually only be asking for 300k and there liability is 1 million would this be a bad choice to call them and throw a number like that at them? I am just frusterated with my lawyer he hasn't done nothing and I have been threw alot if I could get some feedback from somebody that has expierience in injury cases I would appreciate it thanks sorry for such a long letter.
