What are odds of being killed......?

my husband is SSG in the infantry in the ARNG and will be deploying to Afghan next summer to relieve a troop or the following summer for their original rotation. At least this is what he has told me... my husband tells me things on a 'need to know basis' which I agree with. I don't want to know everything nor would I probably fully understand it anyway. My question however comes from a conversation we were having one night when he said that if he does go to Afghanistan that he doesn't think hes' coming back. I was shocked, firstly because he never says anything like that. I told him not to say things like that, that he had to think positive. But he said the odds would be against him....I do understand that its a very dangerous deployment and many guys are losing their lives...but does anyone know what the odds are? Maybe I shouldn't even be asking this. But I just keep hearing those words in my head. Hes' been gone 18 months before deployed over seas to Kosovo so I might be used to him being far away...but not used to him being in direct line of danger. (of course there is danger in everything you guys do really-but I'm talking about hot spots) Thanks for your kindness. Be safe guys (and gals)
